False Start
A side effect of traveling on a shoe-string, is that sometimes one's travel or accommodation arrangements don't go to plan. This won't be of surprise to anyone who has done the weirdy-beardy-tie-dye-traveling thing. And with my trip to Marrakech my first tentative venture into Africa, I could expect there to be problems somewhere on the way.
However, one might hope the problems would begin once I land on the bloody continent, not when I step out of my sister's flat and wait for a train from Fareham train station to LGW. All the trains I needed were cancelled for 2 hours. The official problem was some generic electrical issue around Havant (you probably haven't been to Havant), but I spoke to the ticket operator who adopted the manner of a war-weary Vietnam veteran by describing the South Coast train network as being 'carnage out there'.
Eventually a train came. I missed my flight. I planned to spend 15 hours in the airport (inc sleep), but ended up treating myself to a trip into London to stay with Jonny. I got free shelter, free food and a free play on Guitar Hero. I now fly out tomorrow at 7:30am, but the tube won't get me to Victoria in time so I need to book a taxi to pick me up at 4:40am.
Total cost to self = flight reschedule (£35) + return train to London (£27) + taxi (£14) - Baked Beans on Toast with Cheese(£x) - 1 night accommodation (£15)
Solving for cost of Baked Beans on Toast with Cheese, then I am out of pocket if the cost of Baked Beans on Toast with Cheese is less valuable than £61. But the Baked Beans on Toast with Cheese were really bloody nice.
